One way to encourage positive thinking is to bombard your mind with positive thought intensions. For example, telling yourself 'I feel good and I am giving up smoking', is far more positive than the negative 'I am not going to smole anymore'. You can reinforce the message by writing out positive thoughts and placing them at eye level around the workplace and home. If you have made a conscious decision not to get tense during the day, put up positive messages such as 'I am feeling pleasantly relaxed', and 'I am going to sleep well tonight'. Repeating these positive phrases to yourself even when stressed, helps to replace negative 'what's the use?' self-sabotage thoughts.
